Autonomy Salon and Wellness is a comfy little salon in the Lakeside area; founded by Hayden Muller (he/they). We specialize in creatively enhancing the unique qualities in each one of us by offering transformational hair services in an energetically grounding setting. Autonomy is designed to feel like home and offers a space of solace from the eyes of the world.
We offer traditional hair services on natural hair textures such as cut, color, and styling. We also have stylists that specialize in scalp massage and energy work since cutting off the dead ends is only a tiny fraction of what true transformation really is. If a haircut was all we were after, we would have all found our stylists by now. It’s much deeper than that. It is about finding a place where you feel comfortable being your whole self.
We focus heavily on bodily autonomy and offer what we like to believe to be a safer space for anyone looking to come home to themselves. We are a community salon and pride ourselves in being versatile and flexible, servicing anyone from 1-101! As a salon of independent but supported beauty and wellness professionals, we each have different specialties and we encourage you to check out the social media accounts of all of our entire collective so that you can find a stylist that meets your individual needs.
We offer an hourly rate for our services because we believe that haircuts have no gender and everyone deserves equal treatment behind the chair. With that being said, we also value livelihood above anything else and our prices are reflective of what we need as our bottom line. We NEVER create an expectation around gratuity. We want you to feel like you can splurge for yourself without guilt. You deserve it!

Attention New and Returning Guests:
Thank you for choosing Autonomy salon and Wellness! We have a couple things to help ensure you’re ready for your upcoming appointment.
The salon is set up to be an energetically grounding space. We maintain the energetic hygiene of our space meticulously and hope you leave feeling lighter. To ensure that we keep an energetically respectful environment, please set all judgements and assumptions aside for the duration on your time with us.
For some folks, the salon can be tricky to find depending on what kind of navigation app you’re using. We have found that it’s best to put the actual name of the salon into the GPS as “Autonomy Salon And Wellness” rather than the address. That will lead you to the door rather than the middle of the parking lot.
We do not have signage above our storefront, but the numbers or our address “5714” are above the door when in doubt. You’re also welcome to call the salon directly at 804-627-3662 and we can help you find us.
Masks are optional for stylists and guests. However, we recognize that doesn’t mean that everyone will be comfy that way, so keep that in mind and please be respectful. If you would like to wear one but don’t have one, we have them up front, by the door as well as hand sanitizer. Help yourself. You’re also welcome to ask your stylist to mask if you feel more comfortable.
If you are concerned that you are unable to pay for this service, and it may result in a last minute cancellation, please DO NOT BOOK ONLINE. Instead, reach out directly to autonomysalonandwellnessrva@gmail.com to see if we may be able to meet your needs in a way that is more accessible to you.
Please arrive at your appointment with clean dry hair when possible. Don’t scrub your scalp before a bleach service or anything crazy, but make sure that it’s not more than day two hair whenever possible. Furthermore, if you’re curly, come with clean dry hair! And by clean in that regard, two day hair is absolutely fine, too. Don't overthink this!
***We require a credit card on file to book an appointment online. This is to protect the livelihood of our stylists as well as allow for contactless payment at the time of your appointment. If your appt wasn't booked online, we may ask you to pay a small deposit to end sure that we have a card captured.
Failure to allow at least 48 hour notice of cancellation will result in a 50% charge of the estimated cost of the service.
Failure to allow at least 24 hours notice of cancellation will result in a 50% charge of the estimated cost of the service.
Any NO SHOW appointments, regardless of whether they are new or returning guests, will be charged 100% of the service to account for the stylists time. They will also be banned from booking online and directed to contact the salon directly to book.
There is a 15 minute grace period for any appointment booking. This means if you’re more than 15 minutes late, you will be asked to reschedule, and charged a 100% rescheduling fee at your stylists discretion that will be applied to your next service booked within 30 days of the date of the original appointment. This is contingent to the availability of the stylist.
PAYMENT AND GIFTS:
Most services performed at Autonomy are based on an hourly rate predetermined by the stylist you have selected. This means that you never be double booked unless we have asked for prior consent. Your time is valuable to us, and money is always complicated but the following guidelines will help everything run a little smoother on our end.
All payments for services received and deposits for future services are non-refundable. Feel at home in the mirror, or we will do our best to make it right. Please let us know within 7 days of your original service so we can work together to make it right.
We are happy to exchange any hair product for a product of equal or lesser value within 30 days of the purchase date. If we can’t find the right product after a couple tries we will take the amount of the purchased product off of your next service.
Payments are expected on the same day of your appointment. We accept all major credit/debit cards as well as cash. Apple Pay and contactless payment is available in person. We also can accept Venmo and CashApp in a pinch.
If you would like to say a little extra thank you to your stylist with a gift we love that! As they say, cash is king, but if you forgot this time, thats okay, we can add it onto your service total. Don’t have extra today because this was a real splurge? Then don’t worry about it at all! No shade, no tea. There are no expectations here.
